A graveside service will be held for Eleanor Lillian Barney-Berry, 86, of Roseburg, at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2008, at the Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
Eleanor was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Norwich, Conn., to Lillian T. and Herbert O. Guptill. She died July 21, 2008, in Roseburg of complications from Parkinson's disease.
When she was seven years old, she went to live with her grandparents, of Exeter, N. H. She attended Robinson Female Seminary there. On Jan. 10, 1950, she married Robert L. Barney who she met while he was stationed on the submarine Argonoult in Portsmouth, N.H. Bob was from Olympia, Wash., so she came across country on the Silverstreak train and they were married in Longview, Wash.
Bob and Eleanor lived in Centrailia, Wash., where Bob worked as a mechanic for Weyerhaeuser Co. In 1962, they moved to Coos Bay, where Bob took over the Weyerhaeuser Dellwood Logging maintainence shop. He also was equipment coordinator. In 1989, he died of lung cancer. In 1992, Eleanor married Myler "Mike" Beery of Roseburg who owned and operated the Roseburg Glass Co. He died in 1997.
Eleanor was a member of Dorick Chapter, OES 53 of Coos Bay, where she was treasurer for seven years and held other stations through the years. She was past president of the Coos Bay-North Bend Nile Club, a member of Coos Bay Auxiliary Eagles No. 538, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge of Roseburg, and Bahari Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America No. 104.
She loved people, camping, music, dancing, entertaining and her lovely home and family. Her dog, Max, was a very special pet.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Barney-Thomas and Robyn L. Hansen.
She was preceded in death by her twin brothers, Roger and Carl Fox of Oakdale, Conn.
