Eleanor Alice Bartleson, 93, of Peoria passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Hopedale Medical Complex in Hopedale.

Born June 1, 1920, in Peoria, a daughter of George and Alice Stramka Gunther, she married Horatio "Red" Bartleson. He died in 1984 in Iowa City, Iowa.

Also preceding Eleanor in death was one brother, Harold Gunther, and two sisters, Florence Brem and Evelyn Seavers.

Surviving are her children, Bill Bartleson of Alpha, Ill., Joanna (Jim) Bell of Sherrad, Ill., and Debra (Glen) Ferguson of East Peoria.

Eleanor graduated with the first graduating class at Woodruff High School in 1938.

Before marrying Red, Eleanor was employed as a hairdresser. She later worked for Proctor Hospital and retired as a nurses aide.

She enjoyed working in her garden and spending time outdoors taking long walks and riding her bicycle. She also enjoyed swimming and playing tennis.

She was an artist and drew with charcoals and painted with water colors.

She was a member of Madison Avenue United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and participated in their Peace Meal program.

Burial of cremains will be at Parkview Cemetery at a later date.
