Annie Bell Guilliams Gillespie, of Vinton, entered into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, September 13, 2011. She was born in Callaway, Va., on February 1, 1926. She graduated from Callaway High School as valedictorian. She graduated from Jefferson Hospital as a registered nurse in 1946. She was a private duty nurse for many years and worked at the VA Hospital in Salem for a short time. She was a long time member of Ninth Street Church of the Brethren. Mrs. Gillespie served as secretary of NARFE and Rose Mount Rebekah Lodge #9. She also served as Noble Grand of Harmony Lodge #32, Past President of the LAPM of Virginia and the Rebekah Assembly of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents T.C. and Callie Guilliams; in-laws, Joel and Lucy Gillespie; and brothers, Jesse, Frank, Royal and Brammer Guilliams. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Carl M. Gillespie; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Gary Basham; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Lanae Gillespie; son, William (Billy) Gillespie; granddaughter and husband, Kristen and Ryan Dunagan, all of Vinton; sister, Eva Gibson, of Roanoke; brother, George Guilliams, of Riner; sister-in- law, Janet Guilliams, of Roanoke; and many nieces and nephews. Annie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2011, at Lotz Funeral Home in Vinton. A Rebekah Service will be held at 7 p.m. A Celebration of her Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 16, 2011, at Lotz Vinton Chapel. The service will be conducted by the Rev. James Worline and the Rev. C.C. Kurtz. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Dr. Daniel Temeles, the Oncology Unit at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and Ann Lede and her staff. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018. Published in Roanoke Times on September 15, 2011
