Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 16, 2011 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Mabel Guilbeau, age 93, the former Mabel Dupuis, who passed away Monday, June 13, 2011 at 4:00 a.m. at her residence in Lafayette.
Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, pastor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Mire, will officiate at the services. Readers will be Susie Brunet and Amy Brunet. Giftbearers will be Ella Mae Pryor and Verna Mae Campbell.
Mrs. Guilbeau was a lifelong resident of Lafayette and was very active in many organizations. She was a member of St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette, the Catholic Daughters Court Alice Boucher No. 1537, as well as the St. Anne Society and Bonne Mort Society in Carencro. She was a member of the Camelia Homemakers Club, Good Neighbor International Club, Woodmen of the World, CODOFIL and the Krewe of Zeus. She was crowned Queen of the Lafayette Golden Age Club in 1987 and was presented every year after that as a Past Queen. She and her husband, Oswald, were avid ballroom dancers.
Survivors include three daughters, Velma Gros and her husband, Jerry, of Lafayette, Susie Brunet of Lafayette, Janelle Proctor of Treasure Island, FL; seven grandchildren; Steve Menard, Kirk Menard, June Pellerin, Jennifer Whitmore, Amy Brunet, Paul Brunet, Amanda Olivier; nine great grandchildren, Jonathan Menard, Bethany Menard, Brandon Menard, Ty Duplechain, Ashley Bluffin, Chase Vincent, Isaac Brunet, Eli Brunet, Aaron Bradley; and one great, great grandson, Logan Bluffin.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years, Oswald Guilbeau; her parents, Leonce Dupuis and the former Elizabeth Roy; and a sister, Beatrice Guidry.
Pallbearers will be Steve Menard, Kirk Menard, Paul Brunet, Lawrence Pellerin, Brett Pryor and Chase Vincent.
Melancon Funeral Home of Carencro, 4615 North University Avenue, Louisiana was in charge of arrangements.
