Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Lena Mae Guilbeau, age 88, the former Lena Mae Latiolais, who passed away Monday, June 18, 2007 at 6:50 a.m. at Evangeline Oaks Guest House in Carencro.
Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. Readers will be Seth Kelley & Rusty Guilbeau. Giftbearers will be Madison Bourgeois and Daniel Guilbeau.
Musical selections will be provided by Tony Broussard. The songs will be My Shepherd Is The Lord, Prayer of St. Francis, Hail Mary, Gentle Woman, Be Not Afraid and Tell the People.
Born June 16, 1919 in the "La Cote" community of Carencro, LA. Lena Mae attended Carencro Elementary School and was a graduate of Carencro High School. As a young girl she grew up with her family of the Sarah Bechet Estates Farm. Lena Mae then married her husband Rosemond "Bruce" Guilbeau. Being married only a few years, Rosemond was selected to enter the military service. Lena Mae then went to work as a clerk for Capital Stores, Inc., Lafayette, LA. After spending a few years with Capital Stores, she then became a cashier at Abdalla's in the men's department. Following her employment with Abdalla's, she then went to work for Sears Roebuck & Co. She worked in the shipping and receiving department until her retirement. After her retirement, she enjoyed taking care of her great nieces and nephews. Lena Mae was a lifelong member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. She was a member of the Bonne Mort Society.
She was preceded in death by husband, Rosemond Guilbeau; her parents, Marius Latiolais and Louise Breaux Latiolais, both natives of Carencro; and one sister, Horta Latiolais Guilbeau.
Pallbearers will be John Guilbeau, Timothy Guilbeau, Lance Kelley, Roger Kelley, Robert Olivier, and Donald Stelly. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob & Joshua Bourgeois, Cole Kelley and Logan & Connor Guilbeau.
Melancon Funeral Home of Carencro, 4615 North University Avenue was in charge of arrangements.
