GUIDRY
Doris Virginia Drewett Guidry went home to be with Our Lord on Thursday, June 20th, 2002 after a valiant effort to reover from an aneurysm in her brain. Miss Doris, a life long resident of Louisiana, was born in Montgomery, LA in 1932. She moved to New Orleans as a teenager, and has resided on the North Shore in Abita Springs and Covington, LA since 1967.
Miss Doris was active in her community. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Abita Springs, The Abita Springs Ladies Auxiliary and held the title of Miss Kinglsy House in the late 1940's. Miss Doris was Hostess at Tony Pedone's Restaurant, The Italian Village, Kellogg's Restaurant and Roy's Diner. In her youth, Miss Doris was also employed by Southern Bell, Wimbley Tie Co. and Jacob's Candy Company. She was most recetly employed at the American Red Cross in Covington as a receptionist where she also served as a Disaster Volunteer.
Miss Doris is survived by three sons: Roland A. (Sonny) Kerlec, Jr. of Covington, LA, Randall P. (Randy) Kerlec and his wife, Zina of Abita Springs, LA and Kevin I. Guidry, Sr. and his wife, Charlotte of Abita Springs, LA; five grandchildren; her father, Bertice F. Drewett of Mandeville, LA; sister, Linda Drewett Treubel; brother, Matt Drewett; and many nieces and nephews.
Miss Doris was preceded in death by: her mother, Bonnie Bell Weatherford Crochet of Abita Springs, LA; sister, Shirley Drewett Dorman of Ponchatoula, LA and brother, Larry W. Drewett, Sr. of New Orleans, LA.
Services will be held at SCHOEN FUNERAL HOME, 1414 S. Tyler St., Covington, LA on Saturday, June 22, 2002 at 2:30 in the afternoon. The Reverend Edward Frey will officiate. Friends are invited to join the family at 1:00 in the afternoon at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Abita Springs Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be: Johnny, Michael and Darren Dorman, Larry, Chad and Michael Drewett all nephews of Miss Doris'.
Honorary pallbearers will be the director, employees and volunteers of the American Red Cross.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to The American Red Cross, 619 North Tyler Street, Covington, LA 70433.
The family also wishes to give sincere and heartfelt thanks to Donald Dietze, M.
D. and the Emergency and ICU nursing and technical staff at Lakeview Regional Hospital in Covington, LA. Their professional attentiveness and caring attitude toward Miss Doris is greatly appreciated.
