Funeral services will be held Monday, August 8, 2011 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Lovinia G. "Black" Meche, age 88, the former Lovinia Guidry, who passed away Friday, August 5, 2011 at Magnolia Estates Nursing Home in Lafayette under the care of Heart of Hospice.
Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Johnathan Janise, associate pastor of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro, will officiate at the services. Readers will be Sandy Trahan and Amy Ridenour. Giftbearers will be Dreux Trahan and Drake Trahan.

Mrs. Meche was born May 26, 1923 and raised in Lafayette Parish. Mrs. Meche was a member of the St. Anne Society. She worked for Heyman Department Store for five years and then for Bell South Phone Co. as a supervisor for twenty-six years until her retirement.

Survivors include one sister, Lorena G.T. Baudoin of Lafayette; one nephew, Jimmy Trahan and his wife, Betty, of Lafayette; two nieces, Ramona Cates and her husband, Scott, and Ida T. Comeaux and her husband, Charley, of Lake Charles; nine great nieces and nephews; a host of great, great nieces and nephews; her long time companion, Melvin Tauzin; and her care takers, Elaine Thevenet of Cecilia and Mona Cates of Scott.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Armand Guidry, Jr. and the former Elaina Domingue; three husbands, Weston Dugas, Ashton Roy and Early Meche; one nephew, Raymond Trahan; one great niece, Tammy and Gerald Begnaud.

Pallbearers will be Wes Trahan, Andy Trahan, Chuckie Cates, David Comeaux, Scott Begnaud and Justin Trahan. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Castille, Lee Thevenet and Melvin Melancon.

Melancon Funeral Home of Carencro, 4615 North University Avenue, Louisiana was in charge of arrangements.
