City Mourns Sudden Death of Mrs. C.A. Blachly
Valparaiso and Porter county today mourned the death of Mrs. Grace Blachly, wife of County Auditor C. A. Blachly, who died in Christian hospital at 11 o'clock this morning following an operation submitted to a few hours before.
Mrs. Blachly was stricken Wednesday morning at the Specht-Finney company store, where she is a department manager. Her condition became gradually worse, and
an operation was deemed advisable. This step, according to physicians, came too late to save her life.
The decedent was born in Lake county, Indiana, on February 19, 1874, a daughter of George and Mary (Thornton) Guernsey.
On June 1, 1893, she was united in marriage to Cornelius A. Blachly, and to this union were born two children, Esther E., who is the wife of Dr. W. E. Bordeau, Valparaiso
naturopath, and Ruth, the wife of Bruce B. Loring, Valparaiso attorney.
She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. B. H. Wood, of Valparaiso, and one brother, Joseph Guernsey, of Holyoke, Colorado.
Mrs. Blachly was the first woman in Porter county to hold public office. From 1920 to 1924, during the administration of Mayor E. W. Agar, she served as city clerk.
She was a member of the Valparaiso chapter of Eastern Star.
Funeral arrangements have not been fully completed, but the rites will be held on Sunday afternoon.
