Oneta V. Bader, 101, of Columbia City, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2012 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City where she was admitted on Friday, December 14.
She was born September 2, 1911 in Allen County, Indiana a daughter of Albert and Rebecca E. Grover. As a child, the family lived in Canada before moving back to New Haven. She graduated from New Haven High School with the class of 1928.
On March 27 1929, she was united in marriage to Gaylord H. Lake. They made their home in New Haven. In 1939, they moved to Washington Twp, Whitley County. Mr. Lake died August 26, 1968. On January 6, 1979, she married John M. Bader. They have always lived in Whitley County. Mr. Bader died December 23, 1989.
A full-time homemaker, she raised three daughters and four foster children. She also ran the family's dairy farm. She was an avid card player, enjoyed fishing and traveling and loved farm life especially her milk cows.
Surviving relatives include three daughters, Lois Keener, Columbia City, Gaylen Hinen, Columbia City and Rita (Dave) Phillips, Corpus Christi, TX; two step-sons, James (Norma) Bader, Fort Wayne, Francis (Zana) Bader, Fort Wayne; two step-daughters, Nancy Allen, Fort Wayne and Marsha Johnson, Kent, Washington; 7 grandchildren, Cindra (Steve) Evans, Debra (Tom) Goodrich, Richard A. Goings, Victoria (Danny) Davenport, Anthony A. Hinen, Randal J. Hinen and Denise (Tim) Szelis; 9 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren and 4 foster children, Wallace (Peggy) Collier, Harold Collier, Sandra Collier and Rick Collier.
In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Miranda Ross, Francelia Bewley, Olive Pitser and seven brothers, Darwin, Roscoe, Edmond, Abnis, Russel, Erwin and Raymond Grover.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be in the South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to World Wide Work of the Jehovah's Witness.
