Jeffrey S. Grover, 41
TOGUS -- Jeffrey S. Grover, 41, formerly of Lyman, died on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Togus.
He was born in Portland on April 25, 1969, the son of James and Annette (Brown) Grover. Jeffrey attended Scarborough and Massabesic Schools. He was a volunteer Junior Firefighter at the Goodwins Mills Fire Department from 1984-1987, becoming a senior member in 1987.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1989 where he was a Single Channel Radio Operator. He served in the Persian Gulf War and was honorably discharged in August of 1992. He was very proud of his service to our country. Jeffrey worked as a long distance CDL driver for various companies shortly before he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1996.
He had many interests and hobbies including models, crafts, collecting hats, watching movies and music. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his sons, and was very proud of their accomplishments. He loved to show off their pictures to his family at Togus, and enjoyed the visits from his boys.
Jeffrey was living at the Togus Veterans Center prior to his death. During this time, he developed many friendships and touched many lives with his humor and friendly ways. He developed a strong and supportive 'family' throughout his stay, and will be sadly missed.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Lori A. Tharpe; and his sons, Joshua James Tharpe and Timothy Shawn Tharpe, all of North Waterboro.
Visiting will be held on Tuesday, April 5, from 6-8 p.m., at the Carll-Heald and Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale. Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta, where condolences to the family may be sent to www.khrfuneralhomes.
