Mrs. Lona Belle Bradley, 73, of 529 S. Wayne Ave., was dead on arrival at Waynesboro Community Hospital at 1: 55 a.m. today. Mrs. Bradley attended the First Presbyterian Church, was a former resident of Staunton and Stuarts Draft, and had resided in Waynesboro for the past five years.
She was born in Nelson County on Aug. 20, 1895, and was a daughter of the late William Samuel and Lucy Campbell Grove. She was the widow of Claude Bradley.
She is survived by two sisters, Miss Mickey Grove and Mrs. Nettie Meeks, both of Waynesboro; two brothers, William David Grove of Waynesboro and Hunter Grove of Halifax, N. C., and a number of nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her only child Claude Bradley Jr. who lost his life while crossing the English Channel during World War II when his ship was torpedoed.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the graveside of Mount Vernon Church of the Brethren cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Guy K. Stump.
The family will receive friends at the Etter Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
