Aileen Thralls Ground
(March 18, 1923 - November 13, 2010)
Aileen T. Ground De Soto, Texas 87 years of age. Born in San Bernardino, California on March 18, 1923, she passed away suddenly in her sleep at her home in De Soto on November 13, 2010. In 1940, Aileen married the love of her life and best friend, Jack Ground.
Recently out of the Navy, Jack was a ship fitter and diver. After getting married, they sailed from California to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he worked as a civilian ship fitter for the Navy. From childhood, Aileen always loved to dance. While living in Hawaii, she learned to dance the Hula, often celebrating the beauty of the Hula to the tune of "Lovely Hula Hands". In March 1941, their first son, was born in Hawaii. On December 7th, 1941, they all endured and survived the peril and surprise attack on Peal Harbor. Both Aileen and Jack showed their strength, courage, and spirit by selflessly serving and helping others by their active roles in that critical time of our country's history. Aileen and her family eventually returned to California where their second son, was born in August, 1943. She moved with her family, to a farm in Arkansas for a time, before eventually moving to Dallas in 1948. Aileen worked at Hydrotex in Dallas from 1948 to 1956, operating printing equipment. In 1955 they built their house on about 30 acres near De Soto, where the sons grew up. In February 1957, their third son, was born. All three of Aileen's sons graduated from De Soto High School, from 1959 to 1975. Aileen lost her husband Jack when he passed away in 1982. Out of love,Aileen made many sacrifices in her life to serve and care for her family and those she loved. All terms of endearment, respect, and love apply to this great lady. While we feel lucky and blessed to have had her with us for so long, our Momma told her sons that she was the lucky one. What a Class Act!
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Jack Ground, also of De Soto, Texas, her brother, Rodney Thralls, her grandson, Gavin Ground, and her daughter-in-law, Cindy Ground, the wife of Dennis Ground.
She is survived by her sons, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, sister-in-law, many nephews and nieces, and her dear friend and traveling buddy.
Memorial services only will be held Thursday, November 18th at 11:00 AM at West-Hurtt Funeral Home, 217 S. Hampton Road, De Soto, Texas, 75115.
