Deaths. Mrs. Amelia Behrend.
Mrs. Amelia Behrend, widow of Fred Behrend, died Sunday afternoon at her home, 1013 North Calhoun Street. She was sixty-seven years old last January. Her death was sudden and was caused by a stroke of paralysis. She had been ill at St. Mary's hospital, but felt much improved and returned home a few days ago. She had been in failing health since the death of her husband in September, 1914 (1917).
Mrs. Behrend was born in Ramsau, Germany, Jan. 17, 1857. Her maiden name was Amelia Grossman. With her husband she came to the United States many years ago and for the last forty years had resided in Decatur. She was one of the oldest members of St, Johannes Lutheran church, and was also a member of the ladies' Aid society. She is survived by six children, Mrs. Frederick Kushman, Misses Hattie, Clara and Margaret Behrend and Harry Behrend, all of Decatur, and Mrs. Lydia Costello of Peoria. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Siweck of Decatur and Mrs. Augusta Albaschifski of Germany. There are nine grand-children.
The body was removed to the Moran & Sons undertaking establishment and prepared for burial.
