Emma Goode passed away June 13, 2008, in her home in Bakersfield, CA. Emma was diagnosed on May 14 with a malignant lung tumor and battled courageously for 4 weeks. She was born Emma Grosser on May 14, 1920 to Emil and Maria Grosser in what is now the Czech Republic. She was the fifth of nine children. When the Nazis entered Czechoslovakia, Emma and her younger brother, Fred, fled into Germany, where they lived through World War II. Later, Emma made her way to England where she became a Nanny and learned English. After the war, she returned to Germany, reuniting with her brother. While there, she met and married Marion Goode and became an Army wife. In 1965, they moved to Bakersfield following Marion's retirement from the Army. Marion preceded Emma in death in 1986. Emma worked for K-mart, first as a clerk in the curtain department and later as an office clerk until her retirement. Emma is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ernest and Carol Goode of Lake Elsinore, CA; grandson, Ernie, wife Rhonda and great- grandsons, Ernie and Tyler of Oregon, and granddaughter, Dawnya of Corona, CA. She is also survived by her daughter, Evelyn and grandson, Jared of Bakersfield. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 20 at 10 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary for Emma who passed away at the age of 88. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 19, from 4-8 p.m. at HIllcrest.
