Mrs. Catherine Marie Grolmes, 79, of 2555 Waterman avenue, died in Christian Welfare Hospital, East St. Louis, Monday at 10 p.m. following an illness of a week. She had been a patient in the hospital two days. Death was due to a respiratory ailment.
Mrs. Grolmes was a lifelong resident of the Quad-City area, having been born in Chouteau township where she lived all of her life until moving to Granite City 32-years ago. She was a member of St. Elizabeth's Church and the Royal Neighbors of America, Granite City. Her husband, Bernard Grolmes, died in 1961.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph Grolmes, Louisville, Ky., and Edmund Grolmes, Granite City; a daughter, Mrs. Walter (Dorothy) Lange, Maryville; two brothers John and Arthur Beide, Granite City; two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Agnes) Zimmer and Mrs. Newman (Clara) Warden, both of Granite City, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held today at 8:30 a.m. from Pieper Funeral Home, 1929 Cleveland Blvd. to St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Johnson and Pontoon roads, for 9 a.m. Requiem mass. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Edwardsville township.
