Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Grand Rapids, Mich., with an additional hour of visitation prior 10-11 a.m.
She was born in La Salle to Wilfred and Elizabeth Groleau. She married James Aaron Buffington Jr. in 1936 and moved to Grand Rapids in 1960.
She was an avid square dancer and bridge player.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; and one grandson, Brian Buffington.
She is survived by her children, including Jeanette (James) Jakubek of Reading, Pa., Judy (Vernon) Knight of Honolulu, Hawaii, James W. (Bette) Buffington of Grand Rapids, Jerry (Fran) Buffington of Newbury, Ohio and Roger (Marti) Buffington of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildre; two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Mary) Groleau of Illinois; two sisters, Lillian Sharpe and Clara Groleau of La Salle; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may meet her family at Reyers Valley North Chapel, Grand Rapids, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday, with a rosary service at 8:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Brian Buffington memorial scholarship fund at the Comprehensive Therapy Center, 2505 Ardmore SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506 or to Blessed Sacrament Church.
