DREWRYVILLE - Lathan Wayne Grizzard, 56, passed away May 18, 2007, at Southampton Memorial Hospital. Wayne was born in Brunswick County and was a member of Drewryville United Methodist Church. He was a 1968 graduate of Southampton High School and was the agricultural supervisor at Southampton Correctional Center.
Wayne read his Bible and loved the Lord. He lived his faith, loved life, loved people and never met a stranger. He loved his animals and was an avid hunter. He always helped his family, friends and people in the community. When in his presence, you had to have heard Wayne say, "God loves you and so do I" and always "Merry Christmas!"
Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life for 36 years, his wife, Cathy Ferguson "Punk" Grizzard; his parents, Norfleet Thomas and Kathleen Riegel Grizzard of Drewryville; two brothers, Robert Grizzard and wife Sue of Ivor and Todd Grizzard and wife Peggy of Valentines; brother-in-law, Carl Ferguson and wife Cindy of Franklin; mother-in-law, Ruth Barnard of Smithfield; two nieces, Candy Grizzard Bryant and husband Mike of Courtland and Taylor Renee Ferguson of Franklin; two nephews, Ricky Grizzard of Franklin and Billy Grizzard of Drewryville; two great-nieces, Julia and Tori Grizzard; two great-nephews, Nick and Tyler Grizzard, all of South Carolina; and aunts, uncles, cousins and his many friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Drewryville Cemetery with the Rev. Edmund Ellis officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Norfleet and Kathleen Grizzard, 12063 Old Belfield Road, Drewryville, and suggest memorials be made to the SPCA, 916 Ballentine Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23504 or a favorite charity. Wright Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
