Nadean Blevins - JOHNSON CITY
Nadean Grindstaff Blevins died October 18, 2010.
She was born October 3, 1929, in Mountain City, Tennessee, to the late Judge Herman and Myrtle Grindstaff. She was part of the "Hungry Six" at Johnson City High School and graduated from college in Nashville, Tennessee. On September 4, 1947, she was crowned the first bean queen in Johnson County by Robert Porterfield of Barter Theater and asked to join Barter's company of players.
On Christmas Day in 1952, she married Dr. Carson Blevins and Nadean began work at Baptist Hospital in Rochester, Maine. In 1957, their daughter was born and they returned to Johnson City in 1959.
After raising her family, Nadean returned to work in 1984 to help start Life Resources Regional Organ Donor Center and retired from there in 1992. Nadean was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 51 years and a loyal Rotarian. She belonged to Noon Day Rotary Club, where she was a Paul Harris Fellow.
She was a member of Johnson City Grand Squares, where she loved her square dancing and special partner, Dr. Dub Lady. Nadean loved her Wednesday bridge club and cherished her best friend, Betty Anderson. She was known for her entertaining and her love for animals.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Kyman Arvine Grindstaff and George Paschal Grindstaff.
Survivors include one daughter, Chouree' Blevins Counts, of Johnson City, and her husband, Lawrence; one sister, Voreta Grindstaff Lewis and her husband, Clarence, of Bristol; and one nephew, Doug Lewis, Greer, South Carolina.
Friends are welcome to drop by her daughter's home Thursday, October 21, 2010, from 2:00 p.m. till 5:00 p.m.
A memorial service for Nadean Grindstaff Blevins will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 21, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church.
