Galen Grimm age 62 of Lake Lillian died Sunday, April 4, 2010 at the Bethesda Heritage Nursing Home in Willmar. Funeral services are Thursday 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Willmar with Pastor Gary Esboldt officiating. Burial is Friday 10:15 a.m. with full military honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday at the church for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with K-M Funeral Home in Lake Lillian. Galen Grimm was born November 15, 1947 at Hutchinson, MN to Oliver and Ardina (Schiro) Grimm. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Cosmos High School in 1965. After high school he played trumpet in a traveling dance band. Galen was a Vietnam Veteran having served his country for 20 years in the United States Navy from 1967-1987 where he had achieved the rank of Master Chief Boiler Technician. Galen married Corine Helin on November 6, 1971 at Lake Lillian and they were blessed with their son, David. After retiring from military life they made their home in San Diego until 1993 at which time they moved to the Helin family farm at Lake Lillian. In retirement Galen had enjoyed driving both charter bus and school bus. He also enjoyed traveling, listening to all kinds of music, hunting and fishing in his younger years, was an avid reader, and especially loved spending time with his granddaughter. Galen was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Grimm.
