Graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1858 and served in the US Navy 1858-60.
Resigned commission to serve in the Confederate Navy; served as lieutenant on the R.E. LEE (1863) and on the SHENANDOAH (1864-65)
After the war: Charleston attorney and judge
