GREENVILLE - Funeral services for Belena Janel Takanta Grigsby Askew, 33, of Greenville will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter East MB Church, Greenville. She died Feb. 4, 2005. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery under the direction of Harris-Brown & Marion Funeral Home, Greenville.

She was born May 24, 1971, in Greenville to the late Thomas Lee Bowman and Laredo Grigsby Liner. She was reared by her late grandparents, Benny and Minnie Grigsby. Early in life she confessed faith in Christ. She remained a member of the St. Peter MB Church family until her health failed. During her formative years, she attended Greenville Public Schools, graduating from Greenville High School in 1990.

She was united in holy matrimony to her life partner, Clarence Askew, on June 2, 1993. To this blessed union, three children were born: Clarence Benjamin Grigsby, Octavia Thressa Askew and Elena Mary Frances Askew, all of Greenville.

She was an active volunteer at Susie P. Trigg Elementary School where she was named "Parent of the Year" in 2002. Belena's spirit will live on in the fond memories of those who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories, her husband, Clarence Askew Sr.; one son, Clarence Benjamin Grigsby; two daughters, Octavia Thressa Askew and Elena Mary Frances Askew; her mother, Laredo Liner of Greenville; two sisters, Zuleika (Anthony) Moore of St. Louis, Mo., and Laredo W. Humes of Greenville; two brothers, Thomas Z. Grigsby and Calvin Bell of Greenville; a special uncle and aunt, William and Thressa J. Love of Greenville; a special uncle, Hurow (Jacqueline) Edwards of Greenville; a godmother, Deborah Gray of Greenville; special cousin, Tonja Casey of St. Louis, Mo.; a special friend, Lisa Novak of Greenville; a devoted stepfather, Warren E. Humes; seven sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Grigsby, William Love, Earnest Askew, James Walker and the Rev. Charles Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Hurow Edwards, James Bowman, Warren Humes, Kenneth Gines and Jesse Williams.

Viewing was today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a family hour from 5 to 6 p.m., at Harris-Brown & Marion Funeral Home chapel. Viewing Saturday will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the funeral home chapel.

Repast will be at St. Peter East MB Fellowship Hall
