Juanita Griggs Elliott went to be with her Lord and Savior on Nov. 8, 2012.

She was born in Meeker to Roy Foster Griggs and Jesse Irene O'Neal Griggs on March 17, 1928.

When Dugan Elliott first met Juanita, and her original fiance he, said, "My name is Dugan Elliott and you're going to marry me!"

Dugan proceeded to remove from Juanita's finger the engagement ring she received from her original fiance' and return it to her newly created ex-fiance. A few weeks later, on March 16, 1944, Juanita married Dugan.

In the early 1950s, at the urging of her daughter, Pat, Juanita began attending The Salvation Army Shawnee Corps. Juanita served as a Sunday School teacher, youth chaplain, Sunbeam leader and Home League Secretary. In 2004, the Shawnee Corps honored Juanita for 50 years of faithful soldiership. Juanita also managed and worked at The Salvation Army Thrift Store for more than 20 years where she made many friends and freely witnessed of God's love. Her life was indeed a beautiful Christian witness to everyone that had contact with her. She became a "spiritual mother" to many of those who came to know the Lord through her words and actions of love.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Dugan Louis Elliott Sr.; son, Joseph Benjamin Elliott; grandson, Terry Scott Elliott; her sisters, Evelyn Penisten and Doris Jene Elliott; and brother, Ralph Foster Griggs.

Juanita is survived by her sister, Helen Amerson; sons, Dugan Louis Elliott Jr. and Larry Wayne Elliott Sr.; and daughter, Patricia Lou Elliott. Juanita is also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses, Shelly Dawn Elliott Gochis, Larry Wayne Elliott Jr. Shawn Edward Elliott, Shyla Dawn Brightwell Keenom, Stacey Rene Elliott Easterday and Christopher Earl Elliott.
