Adelle M. (Grigas) Spaulding, 89, formerly of 66A Elm Street, died early Thursday morning, October 5, 2006 at Charlene Manor Extended Care in Greenfield, following an illness.
Born on November 20, 1916 in Worcester, she was a daughter of Michael and Adelle (Nanartovich) Grigas.
Adelle graduated from Commerece High School in Worcester in 1934. Following graduation, she studied at Boston State Hospital and Baltimore Community College in Baltimore, Maryland. She was married to George F. Spaulding for 61 years, till his death in 1994.
Adelle had worked as an occupational therapy assistant for many years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the Gardner and Worcester State Hospitals, retiring in 1978. She was a Red Cross volunteer and enjoyed doing and teaching crafts. She also was a summer resident of West Bath, Maine for many years.
Survivors include her sons, George F. Spaulding Jr. of New Salem, and Timothy C. Spaulding of Boyton Beach, Florida; her daughters, Fay A. Llewellyn of East Brunswick, New Jersey, Audrey A. Harden of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and the Rev. Claire Clingerman of Orange; sisters, Pauline Thompson of Gainesville, Florida, and Ann Moran of West Palm Beach, Florida; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. Besides her husband George Spaulding Sr., she was predeceased by a brother, Charles Grigas, and a sister Helen Nanof, as well as two grandsons, Stephen Llewellyn and Michael Makenin.
Funeral services will be Tuesday evening, October 10, 2006 in Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange. The Rev. Claire A. Clingerman will officiate.
Interment in the North New Salem Cemetery will be private.
