Richard served his country during the Vietnam War in the US Navy. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, George P.Vanderveer Post 129 in Toms River, NJ. In 2008, Richard and his wife, Deborah (Williamson) moved from Beachwood, NJ to Lyndonville, VT. He worked first as a car mechanic for Newark Buick in Newark New Jersey while living in Irvington, and then as a small engine mechanic in Bayville New Jersey for many years first for Taylor Rental (which later became All Four Seasons Rental), and in later years Ace Outdoor Power Equipment which were both located in the aforementioned Bayville New Jersey. When he was not at work he could be found in his woodworking shop at home making many items for family and friends. His favorite pastimes included playing cards and games.
Survivors include his wife of twenty-six years, Deborah Griffith of Lyndonville; four children, MaryAnn Rooney and husband Craig of Texas, Gail Griffith and companion Terrell Woods of Alabama, Amy Hartman and husband Richard of New Jersey, Richard Griffith Jr. of Massachusetts, James Boggess and wife Robin and Lorrayne Brockman and husband Richard of New Jersey; eight grandchildren, Taylor, Emily, Deanna, Cole, Raymond, Ryan, Autumn, and Sammy; a brother, Leonard Griffith of New Jersey; three sisters, Shirley Brugger and husband Frank of Nevada, Janet Fulinello and husband Joe of Nevada, and Bonnie Alberti of Florida; his father and mother in-law, Charles and June Williamson of Lyndonville; four sisters in-law, Judy Hubbard and husband Clayton of Tennessee, Nancy Mitchem and husband Willie of St. Johnsbury, VT, Sharon Bean and husband Donald of St. Johnsbury, VT, and Cheryl Turcotte and husband Brian of South Wheelock, VT; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.
Funeral services were held in Lyndonville, VT on Friday July 29, at 11:00 AM at the Guibord Funeral Home with Mr. John Sleeper officiating. Burial followed in Lyndon Center Cemetery.
