Charles H. Griffis, 69, of 1008 North sixth, died at 3:55 a.m. Monday in St Elizabeth hospital where he was admitted Nov. 30. He had been in failing health five and a half years. Born in a log cabin at Concord, Mr. Griffis had lived several years at Stockwell before moving to Lafayette 17 years ago. He married Minerva D. Winger, in 1926. She is house keeper for Alpha Delta Pi sorority in West Lafayette. Although Mr. Griffis was a farmer most of his life, he also worked as a caretaker for the Ross Gear and Tool company and retired in 1951. He was a member of UAW Local 531, AFL-CIO. Surviving with the widow are three sons and two daughters by a previous marriage: Merle of Stockwell, Bill of Champaign, Ill,. Dale of Lafayette, Mrs. Ruth Howe, Stockwell, ands Mrs. Jean Smith, R 11; a brother, Emory Griffis, Frankfort, and a sister, Mrs Charles Bear, Stockwell.
