Dora Maes, age 77, born to Antonio Pacheco-Griego and Juanita Velasquez-Griego on July 12, 1934, in Santa Rosa, NM. Dora passed away January 11, 2012, at UMC-MICU in Lubbock, TX. Dora met husband Robert Maes in 1957 while he was serving in the Air Force, she married Robert on March 8, 1958.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Maes; three sons, Robert Jr. (Bobby) Maes, Jimmy Maes (Brandy Sorge), and Larry (Patsy) Maes; six daughters, Evelyn Lubecki, Isabel Aragon (Robert Delrosa), Joann (Dickey) Lopez, Lorraine Maes, Tina Cortez, and Geraldine Davalos; 24 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Phoebe Sisneros of Santa Rosa, NM, and Pita (Fred) Gomez of Albuquerque, NM.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Juanita and Antonio Griego; four brothers, Johnny Griego, Billy Griego, Alfonso Baca, and Clifford Baca; and a sister, Zenaida Baca.
Dora worked at the Bus Station Cafe, waitress for the Hotel Clovis, then went to be a dietitian cook at the old Clovis General Hospital. She also used to work as a volunteer at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in the funeral committee meals for 15 years. She operated the Bingo Concession stand at the American Legion Post 25 for about 17 years. Dora was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, as well as a member of the American Legion Post 25 Auxiliary and the Eagles. Dora enjoyed being with all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved cooking especially for the holidays. She was a great cook! Dora enjoyed playing the slot machines, bingos, dancing, and card games with the family. Dora was a devoted house wife, mother, and grandmother.
Visitation hours will be Saturday, January 14, 2012, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Muffley Funeral Home. The casket will be open at the church one hour prior to the rosary. Rosary services will be held at 6:00 pm Sunday, January 15, 2012, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 am Monday, January 16, 2012, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Sotero Sena officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens, 1601 Llano Estacado, Clovis. Pallbearers will include grandsons, Nick Lubecki, Louie Maes Jr., Larry Maes Jr., Jimmy Maes Jr., Anthony Aragon, Jonathan Cortez, Danny Maes, and Sammy Lopez. Honorary pallbearers will include Miranda Davalos, Amanda Davalos, Jennifer Maes, Daniella Cortez, Monica Provolt, Crystal Maes, Samantha Divina, Angelina Macias, Brian Lubecki, Crimson Maes, Tony Maes, Jesse Dominguez and David Griego.
