Alice Durkee, age 75, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away and went to rest in the arms of our Lord, surrounded by all those who loved her deeply, on Saturday, December 31, 2011. Alice was born on March 29, 1936 in Bernal, NM. Alice was a loving, kind, gentle and forgiving person. Deeply touching our lives, she always wanted to feed everyone and bring comfort to those in need. Alice was preceded in death by parents, Juan Bautista Griego, and Celina Tapia Griego; sisters, Bernadette Griego and Senida Griego Villalobos; brothers, Jose Leandro Griego and Teodoro Griego. Alice is survived by her husband, Donald Durkee Sr.; sons, Don Durkee Jr., Tommy Jeff Griego, Mark Durkee and his wife, Sally, Anthony David Griego, Aleacia, and Jesse; daughters, Robin Wise and her husband, Jason, and Lisa Chapek and her husband, Doug; grandchildren, Brandon Moreno, Juanita Vaughn and her husband, John, Brenda Gallegos, Alonzo Griego, Samantha Griego, Josephine Alicia Griego; and one great grandchild, Lotus Blossom Vaughn. Alice is also survived by sisters, Lucaria and her husband, Manuel Romero, Corina Chavez, Joan Lopez and her husband, James, Ruby Graeber and her husband, Daniel, and Cindy Griego; brothers, John C. Griego, Julian Baca y Griego and her wife, Camilla, Samuel Griego, and Manuel Griego and his wife, Lynn; and sisters-in-law, Bernice Griego, and Mary Faye Griego, and brother-in-law, Richard Villalobos.
Services will be at San Isidro Catholic Church in Las Nutrias starting with a viewing at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2012. A final viewing will be held on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Las Nutrias Cemetery.
