THE BUTLER HERALD
Butler, Ga., Tuesday, May 26, 1908
In Memoriam
In loving memory of my dear grandmama Mrs. Susie Caldwell. She departed this life, Tuesday morning May 19th, 1908.
The death angel came and carried her Spirit to Heaven to rest free from pain and sorrow. She had been a sufferer for 17 years from rheumatism. For the last three weeks her suffering was intense. She leaves four children, two sons and two daughters besides a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss. Her remains were interred in the cemetery at Howard on Wednesday attended by a large crowd of sorrowing relatives; the funeral services being performed by W.M. Bullard of Columbus. Mrs. Caldwell was 84 years of age and being a member of the Primitive Baptist church forty years she lived a pure christian life unspotted from the world, always ready to do her duty in every way; all who knew her loved her. So often has she been and stayed with us, but she has gone to never return again; we have bid her our last goodby until we meet up yonder where there is no goodby ever spoken; where there will always be joy and song. No sorrow, no pain ever spoken there; what a blessed thought, all rest and joy. We too have more dear ones on that happy shore we hope to meet some happy day have gone to make heaven their home.
One more seat is vacant, one more Christ-like face is missing at Shiloh. Yet we are comforted in, "blessed are they that die in the name of the Lord."
