WESTBROOK -- Waneta (Nita) Barrett, 55, of Westbrook, died peacefully at home on Sunday, July 25, 2010, after a two year battle with terminal breast cancer.
Nita was born in Portland on Dec. 7, 1954, to Audrey (Neal) and Ernest Greenleaf. She was the devoted wife of Eric Barrett for 37 years. Nita was a very proud, strong mother and wife while she followed her husband's military career of 27 years to his retirement from the United States Coast Guard.
Nita was employed by New England Telephone Company in her early years and then worked as a civilian for the U.S. Coast Guard for 15 years.
She is survived by her husband Eric; son Christopher, and daughter Jennifer, all of Westbrook; and four grandchildren, Arianna, Brittany, Haleigh and Olivia. She is also survived by two loving sisters, Alice and husband Robert Hamilton of New Gloucester, and Judith Baldinelli of Westbrook, and two brothers, Stanley Atwood of California, and Ernest and wife Reggie Greenleaf of North Carolina.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, July 29, at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on July 30, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Hyacinth's Cemetery in Westbrook. Portland Press Herald July 27, 2010.
