Mrs. O. Z. Greene died, passed away Tuesday at Manchester New Hampshire A good Social force added much to best life in this city.
Mrs. O. Z. Greene died at 1:17 Tuesday morning at Manchester New Hampshire. She was at the home of her sister, Mrs. Olive Clough, she had been there about six weeks with her daughter Miss Clara, she spent the summer in the White Mountains and started home about six weeks ago, she stopped at Manchester for a visit taking cold there became so ill that her journey home could not be resumed.
While her condition was known to be serious, it was not thought that it was as serious as it proved to be. she had been an invalid for many years suffering with asthmatic and heart trouble and had been as ill as she seemed to be at this time.
She was at the home of her sister, her daughter was with her and a sister of Mr. Greene lives in the same city so that she had every attention that was possible.
Arrangements for the funeral have not been concluded, the body will be brought to Decatur, as Mr. Greene was not able to go to New Hampshire, K. H. Roby Jr. left for that place at Noon today to make arrangements that may be necessary and come back with the body, it is possible that nothing will be decided until it arrives. That may be Friday afternoon.
KIND SOCIAL FORCE: News of the death of Mrs. Greene, will be received with deep regret by wide circles of friends, with the kindliest disposition and most gentle manner, with a fine mind thoroughly cultivated. She was not only interested but made friends of all she met, she had been for many years known as the best informed in the city on Art and Literary manners, with rare talent and taste she made her home one of the most beautiful and refined in the city enriching it with many fine paintings of her own making.
When her health permitted she took an active part in the literary art and best social life of the city, adding much to it even after she became an invalid, she was one of the first members of the Art Class, the oldest organization and the most respected of that kind in the city.
She was a Charter member of the Congregational Church. Mrs. Greene was born in Pittsfield New Hampshire, May 11, 1837, her parents were Hiram and Lydia French, they soon moved to a farm in Loudon, New Hampshire, and it was there that Mrs. Greene grew up. She was educated in the common schools of the Neighborhood, and took a course at the Academy of Pittsfield, Early in her school life she manifested a talent in literary and Artistic matters.
MARRIED LIFE: Clara A. French and Oliver Z. Greene were married March 4, 1863, they came at once to Illinois living for a number of years at Harristown, they them moved to Decatur and this city has been there home since 1873, for a number of years they have resided at the residence at 17 Prairie Avenue, to whom were born two children, Myrtle and Clara, the oldest daughter Myrtle died about ten years ago, the other daughter with her husband and father survive.
There are four brothers, Hiram W. French, Living six miles S. E. of Macon, Charles W. French lives two miles S. of Warrensburg, Samuel T. French of Decatur, and Frank French, of New York city, there is one sister Mrs. Olive Clough, of Manchester New Hampshire.
Daughter of Hiram French and Lydia Wolcot Bacheldor, wife of Oliver Zebrina Greene married 4 Mar 1863 Pittsfield NH, Mother of, Clara (Greene) Roby and Myrtle who died ten years before her mother, Clara was visiting her sister in Manchester NH. when she died.
