|Birth: ||Jun. 18, 1921|
|Death: ||Jul., 2012|
Daughter of Herbert and Florence (Scofield) McDaniel.
St. Albans - Marjorie Florence McDaniel was born June 18, 1921, to Herbert Rex and Florence Scofield McDaniel in Melrose, Mass., where she spent her early years.
Upon her high school graduation the Great Depression made it very difficult to get work; however, Marjorie managed to find part time work in Filene's Department Store. In 1940 her parents moved to Long Island, where they all became Brooklyn Dodgers fans.
Baseball was a lifelong passion of Marge's, her favorite team being the Boston Red Sox. Having become hardened to bomb threats, she ventured into NYC, becoming a teller at Chase National Bank, working there for seven years.
In December of 1950, the McDaniel family moved to St. Albans, VT due to Mrs. McDaniel's inheritance of her childhood home, a home which had been in the family for over 100 years. Marjorie began working for the US Immigration Service and remained there for seventeen years until her marriage to Maurice Greene in 1968.
During all of her years in Vermont, Marjorie was a dedicated Baptist, contributing countless hours of time and service in numerous capacities. Prior to her marriage, she purchased a camp at the lake and loved spending summers there with her parents. It was her "happy place." One of her great joys of summer was sailing on the lake with her cousin Kendall Scofield. She also used to enjoy golf. Having retired from the Immigration Service, she became a Mary Kay Beauty consultant, a wonderful, fulfilling endeavor. Her husband Maurice predeceased her.
She had, in her final months, been provided with not just care but also love by two incredibly giving and wonderful women, Lucy Johnson and Jan Metievier. Their service will not be forgotten. She was also helped immensely by the kindness and devotion of Allen Hulbert, who was unstinting in his efforts to keep her affairs in order and keep her happy.
She is survived by a number of cousins, among whom are Carole Scofield and Elizabeth Handy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, July 27, 2012, from 12 Noon until 1:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street.
A funeral service will then be held at 1:00 PM in the Heald Chapel. Pastor Elizabeth Griffin will officiate. Interment will follow in the McDaniel family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.
