Harlan Odell "H.O." Greene, 78 of Hayes Wellborn Road, Deep Gap, died Thursday, December 11, 2003 at Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte.
He was born September 11, 1925 in Watauga County to the late Winfred Finley and Jennie Pearl Greene.
Mr. Greene was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, where he served in Italy and was wounded in action.
He was a graduate of Appalachian High School and Clevenger Business School. He attended North Carolina State Universoty andlater graduated from Appalachin State University. He then received his Master's Degree from East Tennessee State University.
He was very active in the community. He was a member of Stony Fork Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Director for 5 years. He was a Mason and a Shriner and served as the president of the Boone Shrine Club. He was a benefactor of the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital. He was, also, President of the Watauga County Farm Bureau and a board member of Blue Ridge RC & D Council.
Mr. Greene taught school in Wilkes County School System for many years. He was, also, an assistant principal and principal in the Wilkes County Schools.
Survivors include his wife, Raydell Staley Greene; a son; two grandsons; two brothers; one sister and several nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Stony Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Elder, the Rev. Sherrill Wellborn and the Rev. Homer Greene officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
