Glenn Charles Green, 96, went to be with His Lord who he had served since his youth, on Sunday, April 6, 2008, in Grand Junction. He was born October 16, 1911, to S. Estella (Guisinger) and Charles F. Green on a farm near Kelly, CO., 18 miles southeast of Sterling. Mr. Green, a lifelong resident of Colorado, grew up near Sterling. His formal education ended after eighth grade so he could help on the family farm. He was the oldest of eight children. He married Margaret Ruth "Peggy" Strohmeyer Green on August 22, 1937 in Sterling. The Greens had two sons, Charles (Jane) of Fruita, and Dennis (Mary) of Puyallup, WA., and one daughter, Kathleen (Bill) Herring of Belton, TX. He owned dairies in Golden and Mesa and two cattle ranches near Salida. He sold insurance for New York Life through his own agency in Lakewood. He moved to Mesa in 1963, and started Precision Sharpening Service in Grand Junction in 1972. Mr. Green, a member of Bookcliff Baptist Church, served as deacon, teacher, choir member, committee member, and trustee. He was on the Executive Committee for the Grand Valley Association of Southern Baptists. He enjoyed listening to Christian music, reading his Bible, and witnessing to others about the love of Jesus. Mr. Green volunteered at Community Hospital and became a State Certified Visitor for the Widowed Persons Service. He was chosen by WESTPEOPLE as Grand Junction's Man of the Year in 1987 for his volunteering and counseling. Mr. Green is survived by his two sons, his daughter, nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. He is also survived by four siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and three siblings. Visitation will be from 3 to 7:00 p.m., April 10, 2008 at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Funeral services will be at ll: 00 a.m., April 11, 2008, at Bookcliff Baptist Church in Grand Junction with the Dr. Kenneth Long and Reverend John Robbins officiating. Interment will be at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery following the funeral and are being handled by Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction. Memorials may be made to Bookcliff Baptist Church, 2702 Patterson Rd., Grand Junction, CO 81506.
