Anna, 90, of Alma passed away December 10, 2013 at Arbor Grove Assisted Living in Alma, Michigan.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Nativity of the Lord Parish, St. Mary's in Alma, Michigan with Fr. Nate Harburg officiating. A prayer service was held at the Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home in Alma.
Anna was born on a Friday, November 16, 1923 at St. Catherine's Hospital in Brooklyn, NY to Joseph and Josephine Graziano. She was baptized on December 30, 1923 at the Church of our Lady of Mount Carmel, Brooklyn, NY. In June 1940 she graduated from High School at William Cullen Bryant High School, Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from St. John's Long Island City School of Nursing New York City.
On October 28, 1945 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Jackson Heights, New York she married George Walter Burt. He preceded her in death on October 23, 2008 after 63 years of marriage.
After her marriage to George they moved to Nebraska and she continued her career as a registered nurse for 12 years. In 1959 Betty and George moved to Alma, Michigan to continue to raise their children and be closer to her sister.
She started working for Gratiot Community Hospital, now called Mid-Michigan Medical Center- Gratiot in Alma as a Registered Nurse. She continued her professional career there until her retirement in 1984. She worked as a floor nurse, supervisor and infection control nurse.
She was a member of St. Mary's church for over 60 years. She was also a member of Vintage Wildflowers Red Hat Society and The Bible Study group. She was instrumental in re-opening St. Mary's school in Alma. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary's church.
"Betty" as she was known to her family and friends enjoyed her family and friends and especially spending winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama. She also enjoyed spending time at Lake Stephenson in Rosebush, Michigan.
She enjoyed the holidays and hosting parties of all kinds. She enjoyed cross-stitch and ceramics that she gave away as gifts. She was famous for her cookies and many baked goods, especially her banana walnut bread.
Betty is survived by her five children; Irene (Keith) O'Boyle of Alma, Donald (Catherine) Burt of Alma, Virginia (Tony) Boyle of Clare, James (Deborah) Burt of Alma and Mary (Troy) Jones of St.Louis. She had 13 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. She is survived by one brother, Michael (Catherine) Graziano, one brother-in-law Charles Burt and one sister-in-law Maude Munoz and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by; her parents, Joseph and Josephine Graziano, brothers, Dominck and Joseph; sisters, Marie, Antoinette, Michaeline, Clementine, Theresa, and Sophie.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic School.
