| Birth: | May 13, 1927 | | Death: | Sep. 29, 2005 |  Janice Amelunke, 78, of Waco, passed away at a local hospital on Thursday, September 29, 2005. A celebration of life will be 2 p.m. Monday, October 3, at Wilkirson-Hatch Bailey Funeral Home, with Rev. Stephen Ramsdell officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, October 2, at Wilkirson-Hatch Bailey Funeral Home.
Hazel Janice was born in Hill County, Texas, to the late Mark Lee and Juanita (Underwood) Gray. After graduation from Aquilla High School, she attended and graduated from Hillcrest Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. On August 17, 1947, she married Alvin E. Amelunk and began a lifetime career of assisting her husband in building and real estate.
Janice put in many years as Head Nurse of the 3rd Floor East at Providence Hospital in Waco. Upon her retirement in 1977, she spent several years traveling with her husband for the State Home Builders Association. Janice was a volunteer for Providence Hospital Auxiliary for many years and served until her death. Janice and Alvin were members of St. John's United Methodist Church for 50 years and later First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Alvin; and brother, Ray Gray.
Survivors include daughters, Sharon Amelunke and Ginger Green and husband, Jerry; granddaughter, Aleisha and husband, Ron; grandson, Jerry; sisters, Betty Bierman and husband, Aubrey, of Brady and Mary Lou Thomas and husband, Earl, of Smynra, Tenn.; brother, Kenneth Gray, of Lubbock; brother-in-law, Mack Forrester, of Austin; twelve nieces and nephews; and the love and blessing of a special extended family.
