Maxine Jane Compton

Maxine Jane Graves Compton of Springfield, age 95, passed away at 7:15 p.m., June 4, in Christian Health Care East. Maxine, daughter of Charley and Maudina Radley Graves, was born in Everton, Mo., May 22, 1914, the sixth of eight children.
She and Duane M. Compton were married September 1, 1934, and celebrated 61 years of marriage until his death in 1996. Together they owned and operated aircraft parts manufacturing businesses in Wichita, Kan., Everton and Willard, Mo., and raised Angus cattle on their farm near Everton. Maxine served as Girl Scout Leader and as Sunday school teacher at Everton Presbyterian Church, where she was a lifelong member.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Ara Graves, Wynona Baker and Marjorie Pryor; and brothers, Iro, Byron, Charles L. and Jack Graves.
Sadly missing her are survivors, daughter Joann Wills and husband, Charles, Springfield; granddaughters, Cynthia Baker and husband, James, Republic, and Susan Spinner, Eminence; grandson Charles Michael Wills and Mary, Springfield; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Maxine Graves, Springfield; and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 8, in Sinking Creek Cemetery, Everton, with minister nephews Dr. Dwight L. Baker, Bill Baker and Truett Baker officiating, under direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Visitation will be in the funeral home from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 7.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Everton Presbyterian Church or Sinking Creek Cemetery Association.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated in-home caregivers she so appreciated during the many years of her lengthy illness.
