Arlon Edward Graves of EOLIA, Missouri
July 20, 1918 - September 15, 2009
Mr. Arlon E. Graves, 91 of Foley, Mo. passed away on Tues., Sept. 15, 2009 at his residence. He was born at home on July 20, 1918 to Raymond and Myrtle (Montgomery) Graves in Foley. After his formal education, he continued helping on the family farm, also tending to their dairy cattle. Later, he did carpenter work and was co-founder of the Snow Hill Lumber Co. with his brother, Merrell Graves. Arlon married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Catherine Reed on August 5, 1939 in Bowling Green. They were blessed with two children; Phyllis J. Briggs and John Ed Graves, who both precede him in death. The Graves family played an important part in the Asbury United Methodist Church. Arlon had been chairman of the building committee for the parsonage and he had served as a key lay person of the church. He also was instrumental in rebuilding the church after it burned down. Apple butter was made on the Graves farm and later this project was moved to the Asbury U.M. Church. Arlon was a man of many talents and was always willing to help his family, his church and those in need. Hard work was no stranger to him. Farming was in his blood and he very much enjoyed visiting at the Elsberry Old Threshers every fall.
