Alonzo Judson Grapes of Longmont died Sunday, Oct. 30, 1994 at a local care center. He was 90.
Mr. Grapes most recently worked as a maintenance worker for the St. Vrain Valley School DIstrict. He previously managed Hested Dime Stores throughout the Rocky Mountain area and the Woolworth store in Laramie, Wyo.
He was a active member of Central Presbyterian Church. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching his favorite Colorado teams whenever possible.
Born on Oct. 21, 1904, in Manchester, Iowa, he was the son of Charles T. Grapes and Kitty Mandeville Grapes. The eldest of seven children, he graduated from Frederick High School in Frederick, S.D.
He married Helen Marie Strawn on Jan 29, 1933, in Kansas. They moved to Longmont in 1958 from Greeley. Mrs. Grapes died on March 23, 1994.
Survivors include his sister Dorothy Williams and her husband Archie of Lakewood; his grand-niece, Wendy R. Hatch and her husband Frank of Laramie Wyo.; and his grand-nephew, Greg Ratliff of Issaquah, Wash.
No visitation has been scheduled. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov 3, 1994 , at Central Presbyterian Church in Longmont, with the Rev. Brandt Boeke officiating. Cremation has been handled by Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel. Private interment will be in Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
