Rita Maxine Ball, 89, a resident of Epsom Health Care and former long time Eliot resident, died on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, following a long period of failing health.
Born in Marion, Maine, on July 24, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Cora (Conrad) Grant. She was educated in the Dennysville school system. Rita met and married her husband, Alton, and together they began a family and moved to Eliot. Following Alton's passing at a young age, Rita remained in Eliot and later married her loving husband of many years, Orin Ball and together they continued to live and be an active part of the Eliot Community and the Eliot United Methodist Church.
Rita worked for many years at Moore Business Forms before her retirement. She dearly loved time spent with children, participating in their activities and enjoying their company. She was a talented handi worker, sewing and quilting, as well as being known for her love of harmonica and yodeling.
She is survived by her grandsons and wives, Chris and Hannah Kelly of Maryland, and Steve and Tara Kelly of Virginia, as well as a daughter-in-law, Jody, of Maryland; great granddaughter, Madison Kelly and great-grandson, Chase Kelly; sisters, Phyllis Small of Lubec, Maine and Goldie Tousaint of Rochester, N.H.; a brother, Paul Grant of Dover, N.H., and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Orin Ball; son, Charles Kelly; great-grandson, Brice; sisters, Ursila Cox and Estelle Oberg; brothers, Myles, Horace, Chester, and Colin Grant.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 11 a.m. at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine. Friends may visit with Rita's family on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. before the service at the funeral home.
