MILBRIDGE-Alice B. Beal, 67, went to be with the Lord on August 6,2011, surrounded by
her loved ones. She was born October 18, 1943, in Harrington the daughter of Perlie and
Mary (Smith) Granl. Alice met Owen W. Beal in 1958. Three years later, they were
married, and the two spent the next 50 years raising a family and touching the lives of
everyone they came in contact with. Alice held a variety of jobs over the years, such as
raking blueberries, making wreaths, picking crabs, shucking clams, and packing sardines.
She owned her own bakery and cake shop for many years and continued that interest
afterher shop closed by teaching classes and decorating cakes for family and friends.
Known as DNanny AliceD to all of her daycare kids, she will always hold a special place
in their hearts. Several years ago, Alice became interested in genealogy and it remained
her passion to the end. She was also an avid Red Sox Fan; however, the most important
aspect of her life was her family. The blessing that she brought to her family was her love
and devotion to each and everyone one of them. Alice's love for her spiritual family and
God was evident by the life that she lived. Alice's legacy will be carried on by her
husband, Owen; daughters, Resa Beal, of Otis; Coreen Burt and her husband, Danny, of
Milbridge; Dawn Fickett and her husband, Richard, and Mary Fickett and her husband,
Alvah Jr, of Cherryfield; grandchildren, Misty and Gerard, Phil and Ashley, Owen, Cory,
Alicia and Paul, Meagan, Kyle, Jared, Cassie, and Zachary; great grandchildren, Colby
and Natalie, the light of her life. She is also survived by her sisters, Lillian Foss and her
husband, Hylman, of Harrington, and Charlene Bagley of Milbridge; in-laws, Nancy
Harrington, Doug and Mary Smith, Deli McLain, Sharon and Marvin Moore, Libby and
Wayne Joyce, Dale and Valerie Beal, Patrick and Diann Beal, and Shelley Phinney. In
addition, Alice leaves behind many special nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to
name, who were an integral part of her life throughout the years. Alice was predeceased
by her parents; nephew, Todd Foss; sister-in-law Joann Potter; and brothers-in-law
Richard Potter, Stanley McLain, Bobby Phinney, George Harrington, and Gilford Bagley.
