Anna Brandhorst

Herrin - Anna Brandhorst, 85, of Herrin, died Sunday, December 11, 2011, at Shawnee Christian Nursing Home in Herrin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 16, 2011, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Steve McKoewn officiating. Burial will be in Murdale Gardens of Memory in Murphysboro. Visitation will begin after 6:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2011, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, 204 Halfway Road, Marion, IL 62959 or to Shawnee Christian Nursing Home, Rehab Department, 1901 N. 13th Street, Herrin, IL 62948. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

Anna was born on May 25, 1926 in Dubious, Illinois to Andrew and Mary (Cummins) Graham. She married Elmer Charles Brandhorst Sr. on July 2, 1942, in Chicago; he preceded her in death on August 8, 2007.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sally and Jim Hilligoss of Herrin, Gail Lohman of Carbondale and Christine and Alvin Misker of Buchanan, Tenn.; sons and daughters-in-law, Elmer Charles and Arden Brandhorst Jr. of Carbondale and John David and Cindy Brandhorst of Bartlett, Tenn.; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Barbara Graham of Poeton, Ill.; sister, Susan Westberg of Clarksville, Tenn.; and niece, Cornelia Sollenberger of Nevada.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Dennis Graham; sister, Mary Ann Reagan; and grandson, James Michael Hilligoss.

She retired as head of housekeeping from Carbondale Clinic after 15 years of service. Anna enjoyed listening to big band music, dancing, crocheting, and doing art projects. She was a member on a bowling league at Carbondale Bowl and a member of Crab Orchard Golf Course in Carterville. Anna was a community parent in her neighborhood. She will be dearly missed.
