Elizabeth "Betty" Brewton
(October 21, 1921 - April 7, 2008)
Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Brewton, 86, of Waycross (Ware Co) died early Monday morning at Satilla Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Monett, Missouri to the late Walter Graham and Irene Goodloe Graham. Mrs. Brewton worked for the Civil Service during World War II as a dental hygienist in Alaska, and Japan. She also spent time in Mississippi before moving to Waycross in 1976.
Mrs. Brewton was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. At Trinity she served on the Administrative Board, was a member of the Chancel Choir, United Methodist Women, and the John Wesley Sunday School Class. Along with her membership at Trinity, Mrs. Brewton also attended services at Bethesda Fellowship, where her daughter Janice is the Associate Pastor. Mrs. Brewton was a member of the Christian Women's Club and served at Trinity's House of Hope. Mrs. Brewton was well known for her strong prayer life. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Brewton and a brother, William Graham.
Mrs. Brewton is survived by her daughter, Janice Brewton of Waycross and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held 3 pm, Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Members of the John Wesley Sunday School Class have been asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and should gather at the church by 2:45 pm, Thursday. Burial will take place 11 am, Friday at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm, at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Bethesda House of Mercy, 1010 Mary St., Waycross, Georgia 31503. Sympathy may be expressed by signing online at www.milesodumfuneralhome.com.
