Mrs. Mary V. Grafius
Mrs. Mary V. Grafius, 1301 Mifflin Street, passed away at her home at 3:30 Wednesday morning, January, 5, 1944. She had ben ill about two weeks with a severe cold and contracted pneumonia yesterday.
She was born in Porter Township, on a farm situated across the river from Alexandria, on April 28, 1854, the daughter of Peter Piper and Mary McDermott Piper. At time of death she was aged 89 years, 8 months, and 8 days.
On February 11, 1873, at Petersburg, she was united in marriage to Philip Piper Grafius, who preceded her in death eight years ago.
Mrs. Grafius was the last surviving member of a family of eleven children.
Surviving her are two sons and a daughter: John A. Grafius, Wilmington, Del.; Mrs. Fannie McDivitt, at home; Paul B. Grafius of Wilkinsburg. A daughter, Mary Margaret Grafius, passed away in 1938. One grandson, John A. Grafius of Wilkinsburg, also survives.
Mrs. Grafius was a faithful member of the Fifteenth Street Methodist Church and had been prominent in the work of the church for many years.
The funeral service will be held at Brown's funeral home at 2:30 on Friday, the Rev. J. Frederic Moore officiating. Interment will be made in Alexandria. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon tomorrow.
