Doris G. Coon, age 82, of Crystal River, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2010, at Life Care Center in Lecanto. She was born on October 11, 1927, in Watertown, NY, to Clinton and Myrtle (Wheeler) Gotham. She then lived in Syracuse, NY, and attended school there. She met the love of her life in 11th grade, Richard "Dick" Coon. Upon graduation Doris went to work for the telephone company while Dick was stationed in Italy while serving in the Army.
They were married August 15, 1948, and enjoyed 61 years of marriage, raising their four children: Pamela Hogan of Reno, NV; James and his wife Jo Coon of Rochester, MN; Jeffery and his wife Rhonda Coon of Longview, TX, and Barbara and her husband Scott Peterkin of Atlanta, GA. They were blessed with five grandchildren: Martin Coon, Dylan Coon, Nathan Coon, Courtney Ward and Rachael Peterkin. They were then blessed with two great grandchildren, Kiannah Coon and Jaidyn Coon.
Doris was the best wife, Mother and Grandmother in the entire world and she will be deeply missed by her husband, family and friends.
A celebration of life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the Brown Funeral Home in Lecanto, Florida. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home and after the services in the East Chapel of the funeral home with a light brunch. Private cremation will take place under the care of Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in Lecanto, FL.
