Grace Gossett Babb, 77, of 67 Peachtree St., died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at Laurens County Hospital.

A native of Laurens County, she was the daughter of the late Henry B. and Myrtle Wilkie Gossett. She was a member of Gray Court First Baptist Church, where she was church organist for 50 years, was choir director for 25 years, was a former Sunday schoolteacher, was an active member of the WMU, and was director for several years. Mrs. Babb was a retired schoolteacher, having graduated from Lander College.

She taught for more than 30 years in schools in: Gray Court Owings, Woodruff High School, Ford High and Laurens District 55 High School. She was a former member of the national and state associations for teachers and the National State Biology Teachers Association. She was a charter member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Kappa Sorority, and was a member of the Fidelis Epsilon Chapter of the ADK for retired teachers.

Surviving are her husband, Ellis E. "Gene" Babb, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Marie Babb of Simpsonville, and James E. and Sheila Babb of Cumming, Ga; a daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Brian Riggins of Liberty; a brother, James Franklin Gossett of Simpsonville; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Babb was predeceased by a brother, Willard Baxter Gossett; and a sister, Elizabeth Gossett Gwinn.

Visitation will be held tonight, Jan. 27, 2004, from 7 to 8:30 at the Lanford Funeral Home in Woodruff. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Gray Court, by the Rev. Henry Rogers. Burial will follow at Gray Court City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. The family is at the residence. Lanford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
