Mary Ida Burgett
Mary Ida Burgett was born on March 11, 1914 in Newhall, Calif., the oldest of four children of Zelpha and Ivan Gordon. She passed away on Sept. 8, 2003 in Mt. Mesa.
Mary was a long-time resident of the Kern River Valley, and loved by all who knew her as a generous and mild-mannered person. Most recently Mary lived at the Skilled Nursing Facility in Mt. Mesa where she was quite fond of many more new friends.
Mary did well in teaching her children right from wrong by her example, instilling in them honesty, pride, and to treat others with respect and courtesy. She loved her cats and the wild critters that would visit her occasionally, including the baby skunks that would play with the kittens on her porch.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband Willie Burgett; brother Jack Gordon; and sister June George. She is survived by her brother, Hugh Gordon of Seattle; daughter Barbara and husband J.D. Gallion of Ojai; daughter Dorothy Gates of New Mexico; son Dennis and wife Jerry Melby of Onyx; son Gordon Coker of Nevada; 13 grandchildren; and at last count, 22 great-grandchildren.
Mary has gone home to the Lord now, and she is no longer in pain. Services were held on Sept. 13, 2003 at the Kern River Valley Cemetery with Rev. Gene Bush officiating.
