Funeral Home Director Here Dies
Mrs. Lora Mai Alexander
Funeral services for Mrs. James H Alexander, 58, owner and manager of the Houston Funeral Home, who died Aug. 18 at The Houston Hospital following a long illness, were conducted at 3 pm, Friday, Aug. 19 from the home with Charles Bland, minister of the Church of Christ, and the Rev. W C McCay, former Methodist pastor here, officiating.
Interment was in the Houston Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Thomas Odie Martin, Derwood McCullough, W V Metts, Bob Shelton, Oscar M Walker, W W Brand, Sr., H H Carpenter and D A Evans.
She owned and operated The Houston Funeral Home for 18 years, purchasing the business in Feb., 1943.
Born in Henderson, Tenn., Dec. 29 1901, she was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson (Dock) Gordon and Nancy Nannie Jowers Gordon, both natives of Tennessee. She was a faithful member of the Houston Church of Christ. She had resided in Houston for the past 41 years.
She is survived by her husband, James H Alexander, a brother, Jean O Gordon of Houston, and three nephews, Douglas Gordon of Houston, Carter Gordon of Anahien, Calif., and Charles Gordon of Houston.
