BANGOR Tad Gordon, 84, passed away Monday, June 13, 2011, with his family by his side, at his home. He was born May 25, 1927, in Dexter, the son of Horace "Spike" Gordon and Marion (Call) Gordon.

He was a graduate of N.H. Fay High School, Dexter. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and later graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in psychology. Tad was the director of the Piscataquis office for economic opportunity in Dover-Foxcroft and was instrumental in the merger of the Piscataquis office and the Penobscot office for economic opportunity, culminating in the creation of Penquis Community Action Program. He retired from Penquis CAP in 1981, as the deputy director. He and his wife, Eunice, moved to Florida, where he worked at Marion County Senior Citizen Center and Marion County Hospice Center. He was a member and past president of Kiwanis Club, Brewer. He was a corporate member of the Eastern Maine Development District and served on the Study Commission for the reuse of Charleston Air Force Station. He was a past business area chairman for United Way of Penobscot Valley. He served as district chairman of fundraising for the Boy Scouts. He and his wife, Eunice, were members of Penobscot Valley Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Eunice (Mountain) Gordon of Bangor; three sons, Geoff Gordon and his wife, Linda, of Johnson City, Tenn., Thomas Gordon and his wife, Verne, of Ithaca, N.Y., and Peter Gordon and his wife, Laura, of Scarborough; two daughters, Deborah Grimmig and her husband, Joseph, of Winthrop and Virginia Peabody and her husband, Randall, of Bangor; three stepdaughters, Cindy Hamilton and husband, Ricker, of Falmouth, Leslie Neville and her partner, Jeff Turner, of Dexter and Laurie Sproul and her husband, Gregg, of Otis; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Jeanne Keene of Orland.

There will be a private graveside committal service at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. (Bangor Daily News posted 6/15/2011)
