NEWPORT and PALM BAY, Fla. - Arthur E. Gordon, 88, died May 9, 2010, at Anchor Rehabilitation, Palm Bay, Fla. He was born June 18, 1921, in Dexter, a son of Edward and Libbie (Fogg) Gordon.
He graduated from N.H. Faye High School, Class of 1940 and attended the NYA program in Dexter prior to moving to New Haven, Conn., where he worked for two years as a tool, gage and die maker.
During World War II, he entered the Navy and fought in every theatre of the war. He also attended Wentworth Institute, Boston, while in the service and was discharged in 1946.
He married the former Eleanor White, Oct. 18, 1947, whom Art called a great wife and best friend. After the war, he worked in the Pratt & Whitney Experimental Department, East Hartford, Conn., and earned a state machinist's diploma. After returning to Newport, Art was a foreman and later superintendent of Fay-Scott Machine Manufacturing, Dexter, retiring in 1984.
In addition to his wife; and stepson, Robert Dickey, both of Palm Bay, Fla.; he is survived by three sisters, Florence Rhoda of Parsonsfield, Eunice Fraser of Bath and Ruth Dodd of Midland, Texas; a brother, Virgil Gordon of Houston, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Bruce Gordon, in 1996.
Graveside committal services will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Newport. (Bangor Daily News 5/11/2010)
