Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Glory Baptist Church with the Rev. Coy Cole and the Rev. Ronald Barnett officiating. Military rites follow in Union Cemetery at Taylortown.
The family receives friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Gordon, the son of William Duncan and Carrie A. Jemison Gordon, was born Jan. 16, 1927, in Taylortown. He married Dorris E. Hefner on Feb. 25, 1946, in Fort Worth. She preceded him in death on March 14, 2002. He served in the United States Marine Corps, receiving a Purple Heart, and he saw the flag when it was raised on Iwo Jima.
He worked as a mechanic with Campbell Soup Co., retiring after 20 years service to the company. He was a member of the Glory Baptist Church where he was baptized on Dec. 13, 1998.
A son, David K. Gordon, and two grandsons, Shane Lay and Josh Gordon, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Mike Gordon and wife, Audrey, of Minter; two daughters, Sharon Lay and husband, Gerry, of Greenville and Carol Carroll and husband, Leslie, of Blossom; special friends, Charlet and Roger Hutchings; grandchildren, Amanda Gordon Moore and husband, Rickey, James Duncan Gordon, Wendy Carroll Cox and husband, Mike, Bryan Carroll and wife, Krystal, Jennifer Gordon Ebbs and husband, G.W., Matthew Gordon, Gerry Lay II and wife, and Eric Lay and wife, and Joel Lay; and 14 great grandchildren.
Casket bearers are Doug Moreland, Lawrence Malone, Thedus Kelley, Troy Gordon, B.J. Stiff, Roger Hutchings, Corky White and Donald Smith.
Honorary bearers are Jim Erwin, Al Pasquill, Bill Hatch and Ulus Gordon.
